Clarins Winter Wellness Giveaway
It’s that time of year when that golden tan you’ve worked on all summer starts to fade, gowns and onesies become a necessity and shaving is put on hold as we prepare for hibernation – true Cape Town style! With that being said, we tend to forget how damaging this dry winter weather is for our skin and sometimes find ourselves neglecting the most important part of our body. Especially now that winter is on our doorstep and the red wine will be flowing… we need all the hydration and moisture we can get!
Nicole’s experience:
There’s nothing like a little winter getaway adventure to get you enthusiastic and pumped up for the start of our own slightly less exciting Cape Town ‘winter’! So when the Clarins team asked us to try out a few of their products, specifically for hydrating, replenishing and promoting radiant skin we thought it only fair to put these products through its paces and bring them along on a ski trip to the Alps! From a 30-hour plane journey to -15 degree temperatures, paired with the most sensitive skin in the world – these products were under a lot of pressure.
There is no doubt that travelling in general puts a lot of strain on your skin and especially when it’s super sensitive like mine and affected by the slightest change in temperature, altitude or embarrassing moment, you need all the help you can get!
The following products were on review:
- Moisture Rich Body Lotion
- Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm
- HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase
- BB Skin Perfecting Cream
- UV Plus Anti-Pollution Day Screen SPF 50
My skin really suffers when I travel, from breakouts and dryness to redness and inflammation – nothing seems to soothe or hydrate. I started using the products as soon as I got onto the plane and was waiting for my skin to flare-up and breakout (the usual story after a flight), but to my relief, I didn’t experience all the usual symptoms and there was not one spot in site. Hooray!
The UV Plus sunscreen was a hit and was small enough to keep in my ski jacket, which meant that I became the sunscreen supplier for the trip. We hardly had to reapply; just one application in the morning carried us through until the afternoon. Its oil-free, lightweight consistency is much thinner than other sun care lotions, making it the perfect sunscreen to wear under your moisturiser or make-up (you still have to look good on the slopes you know!). The HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase, which is known as the water injection for the face, was vital in that dry icy air. It’s an intensive, moisture-replenishing serum that helps restore the skin’s natural hydration capabilities and has a matte finish so you won’t look like you’ve just coated your face in olive oil.
Moisture Rich Body Lotion Helps smooth dry, rough patches and improves skin tone. Infused with Peach Milk, Shea, Candlenut Oil and Orange Blossom, this lotion not only smells heavenly, but also visibly minimises the signs of aging caused by sun, cold, heating and air-conditioning. I found the BB cream a little dry, but I just added my moisturiser to it and applied it to my red cheeks and nose (it was just a little chilly at the top of Mont Blanc). Moisture replenishing lip balm helps to repair dry chapped lips, hydrating them and above all keeping them lusciously smoochable on the slopes.

June 1, 2016 at 3:11 pmAs I’m heading into my late twenties, I’ve started noticing how dry my forehead can get. I use hydrating face masks and night oils, and yet every afternoon my skin starts to feel tight and flaky. The cold air outside, and the dry, heated air inside are no friend to me! My skin would love to feel the effects of Clarins HydraQuench during the day!

June 1, 2016 at 9:26 pmIt’s go for the moisture rich body lotion thank you! Although I moisturiser every day I still get dry skin in winter so I’m hoping that this product is next level in terms of moisturizing.

June 1, 2016 at 11:38 pmThe Baume Corps would definitely be a winner. By that being said, as a sportswomen, i always find the need to moisturise before and after a football match. The sun definitely dries out my skin when playing in the sun for 90 minutes in a football match. The Baume Corps super hydrant is pretty useful especially when it comes to me having to dive for the balls that gets attempted for a goal. I end up scaring my waist and the body lotion helps sooth things out.

June 4, 2016 at 8:19 pmWow, this was the best trip to date! But on a serious note, myself and my fiancé would not have had the same trip if it was not for the moisture Rich Body Lotion, Moisture Replenishing lip balm and UV Plus Anti-Pollution Day Cream SPF 50. Us South Africans thought we were prepared, but after 1 day in the alps our skin started to dry out, lips started to crack and faces looked like lobsters. However Nicole from wellness in the city came to our rescue and within 1 day of treatment our skins were hydrated and ready for the slops once more!!!

June 8, 2016 at 12:19 pmMy skin loves and needs me some Clarins. The UV protector is so light and my skin absorbs it so well. Ideal for keeping my skin protected from the harsh winter sun.

June 8, 2016 at 1:20 pmcoming from a warm humid climate which stays that way even in winter, my first winter in Cape Town this year is proving as different as climately possible! Not only are my lips, face and hair dry, the skin on my body is also going through an extreme winter dryness shock. The lower end products that fit my budget are not doing the trick but all these Clarins products seem like they will be just the ticket to keep the parchment like look at bay from my lips and skin 🙂

June 12, 2016 at 8:07 amI hope my comment makes the cut as both my skin and I are in a tad bit of a pickle. Or should I say winter wrinkle. This is the first winter I have felt mother natures rath on my skin. My eyes constantly dry up, as if I were allergic to life . My lips crack and split to the point of having their very own dooms day. And the area around my mouth could easily resemble someone sticking a heated hoover over it, and drying out every last inch of vapor this little face had to offer.
I could go on and on with every methoper under the sun (God does my face need sun) but I feel you my understand the desperation in my plee, to be please let me win so my skin can stop feeling like a fishes fin.

June 12, 2016 at 8:12 amTo end off, I feel each product would bring something to the table that will work in collaboration to fix my winter blues. However if HAD to choose one, it would be hydra quench!
