The WITC #ActiveChallenge
This year we took on some brave, daunting and sometimes uncomfortable challenges, testing our fears and breaking barriers we never thought possible, so when Virgin Active contacted us to take part in their #ActiveChallenge we were very hesitant but couldn’t resist just one last little endeavor before we pig out for the festive season!
Picking a challenge wasn’t as easy as we had hoped… to date we dominated our first triathlon, tackled ocean SUP boarding, survived open water swimming, smashed marathons, completed trail runs, took on the Cape Argus (hesitantly), attempted acrobatic yoga and conquered the infamous New York fitness scene! This time, a race or gym class wouldn’t do… it was time for a real challenge and to push our bodies to the max.
We turned up the heat, got out of our comfort zones and challenged local actor and comedian, Siv Ngesi, to one vigorous, intense, sweaty hour of his favourite sport – boxing! This may sound very doable but for the two of us uncoordinated amateurs, taking on the man who made headlines in June for knocking out Expresso host, Graeme Richards in the ring was far from a simple task. We crammed in 8 boxing classes in the short space of four weeks, pushing our fitness to the next level, whilst learning the intricate technique and etiquette from our assigned Virgin Active boxing badass Enver Pockpas!
We will admit we are still amateurs and perfecting the form didn’t come naturally to us. Although we had a good fitness base to start with, we often found ourselves doing upper cuts instead of hooks, forgetting to duck for the straight rights and being klapped in the face by our trainer for not paying attention (literally).

Boxing is one of the best fitness regimes we have ever experienced for toning, building muscle and working your whole body! From skipping, push-ups and punching to one on one coaching from Enver, the sessions were so diverse that they flew by leaving us on the ultimate adrenaline high and wanting more!
