Situated in the internationally renowned Cape winelands, Mont Rochelle is one beautiful estate perched on the hilltop of a 39 hectare vineyard in Franschhoek. Although we have often enjoyed a little outing to the winelands, we have never had the privilege of experiencing all that this gorgeous wine farm (that forms part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection) has to offer.
From picnicking on the hilltop estate and wine tastings to pampering spa days and fine dining at the farm’s restaurant, Miko, Mont Rochelle is the perfect destination for a day trip with the family or romantic night’s stay in the town known as the culinary capital of South Africa.
Although we didn’t stay the night at this exquisite estate, we felt incredibly spoilt, escaping our mundane daily routines in the city for a pamper session at the Mont Rochelle spa followed by a lunch date with our lovers.
Guests looking to take some time out for some much needed rest and relaxation are welcomed to indulge in all the spa facilities.
We loved the fact that the spa is very intimate with two dedicated treatment rooms as well as a Hammam, so it really felt like we had the heavenly haven all to ourselves, receiving excellent service from the friendliest staff who made us feel very posh and important. The signature treatments all make use of the eco-friendly Africology range, including products which are made from 100% essential oils and natural plant extracts. They also offer experiences that are exclusive to Mont Rochelle such as the Grape Stem Cell Signature facial, which is a state of the art beneficial repairing and preventative facial using real grapes.
Our massages were so relaxing that we found it very challenging to de-robe and get dressed for lunch, but the hunger quickly kicked in at just the thought of our 3-course menu that was waiting for us at the Miko restaurant based within the farm’s manor wing.
With its elegant Cape Dutch feel, contemporary design and wrap-around views overlooking the Franschhoek valley, Miko offer seating both inside by the cosy fireplace or outside on the terrace – perfect for all weather conditions.
It was hard to make a menu selection from the unique list of international dishes, each incorporating a local twist. Some of the starters include Crispy Smoked Paprika Squid, Cape Malay Spiced Prawns and Rooibos Smoked Kudu whilst mains range from a twist on a South African favourite Bobotie Spice Chicken to Franschhoek Salmon Trout and Butternut and Rosemary Cured Canneloni. To finish off the fine dining experience, a range of unique culinary creations are on offer based on classic desserts such as Carrot Cake, Chocolate Fondant and their signature Strawberry Steri Stumpie Mousse.
