Inhabit Wellness Retreat
Our first and definitely not our last Inhabit yoga wellness retreat was hosted by Danielle Oosthuizen on the beautiful Angora Stud Farm in Bonnievale. We were treated like lannie’s from the moment we arrived and spoilt beyond belief from the incredible scenery, luxury accommodation, never ending supply of delicious food and of course the wine ‘pairing’ evening that will go down in WITC history.
Sometimes yoga retreats get a bad rap and can be described as an unbearably boring sober hippy weekend comprising of green juices, lentils, tie-dye and tasteless tofu concoctions that will either make you sit on the loo for hours or will keep you clogged up for days. The result – namastay at home and catch up on some series instead. Trust us when we say, THIS IS NOT THAT KIND OF RETREAT!
We arrived at the Angora Stud Farm, which has got to be the most beautiful farm in the Western Cape. This magical backdrop made up of giant mountains and rows of vineyards is the perfect spot for you to unwind and zone out. Cheeky Shetland ponies moseyed along in the fields on show for all the guests to kiss and cuddle. There is a photo opportunity around every corner – needless to say, we were in heaven!
We were shown to our rooms with views across the valley, where we could literally watch the sunrise from the comfort of our cozy double beds. Once we were settled in we were given an itinerary of what the weekend had in store for us. There was no pressure to take part in any of the activities and if you felt like doing nothing all day they set up ‘chill’ stations with giant pillows under the trees for you to just relax and recharge. If you wanted a more adventurous weekend, you could take part in the following activities:
Sunset 4×4 drive – sundowners set up
Full body massages
Nature meditation walks
We were welcomed with delicious rose and turmeric date balls covered in coconut and a pink petal potion that got us into the ‘retreat’ mood. A pretty tea station was set up so we could mix up our favourite mutis for our morning cuppa. Our evening was spent by the fire with a glass of wine and an intro on what our food journey would entail during our stay. The incredible girls from Gather, the plant-based food goddesses, created beautiful tasty vegan dishes using ingredients from local organic farmers. Us carnivores were super impressed with every dish on offer and were always the first ones going back for seconds.
Our sunrise/sunset yoga sessions couldn’t have been in a more idyllic setting – overlooking the sun kissed valley, we watched the sun rise and fall as we set our intention for the weekend.
Our last evening was what we like to call an impromptu celebration of living for the moment, which we celebrated with a few glasses of red wine. Our night was made up of dancing around the fire, dressing up in vintage frocks that were on display, singing old eighties tunes at the top of our voices and making memories we’ll never forget (for some of us those memories are still a bit blurry). Although our hearts were full and our heads a little fuzzy, we laughed harder than we have in years and made everlasting special friendships.
Thank you to the Oosthuizen family for their hospitality and generosity. We had the most incredible time celebrating life, love and wellbeing.
