Adventure Boot Camp
Adventure Boot Camp’s back to basics approach to open-air health and fitness has generated an influx of interest amongst women across the country. It was founded in Cape Town by sports enthusiast, Huenu Solsona, and has now more than 100 camps countrywide, training over 50 000 women through their paces. All camps are lead by highly qualified fitness trainers, who ensure campers are given a personal experience in a supportive, group environment.
“Injecting fresh air and vitality into the hearts of female fitness enthusiasts countrywide”
Like most of our friends we were familiar with Adventure Boot Camp, but had no idea what the sessions entailed! So when an invitation arrived to train with the founder in honour of their 10 year anniversary at Kirstenbosch Gardens, we immediately RSVP’d… ok, it helped that we knew we could stuff our face with delicious cupcakes from The Velvet Cake Co. after the session.
We received a very warm welcome from founder Huenu Solsona and got down and dirty (literally) as we were the only blondies who didn’t bring an exercise mat. The overall energy was very uplifting and genuine and the class was fun and engaging. The sessions incorporate cardio and strength training and although the trainers motivate you along the way, they also encourage you to do the exercises to the best of your ability.
With all the latest fitness classes and unique explosive workouts it was a nice change of scenery doing a class that wasn’t as extreme, yet still gave you the opportunity to push yourself and have a proper full body workout. Unlike other fitness events we have attended, this one finished off with cupcakes and wine (what a draw-card), reminding us that Adventure Boot Camp is all about ‘exercising while socialising’ and more importantly, having fun.
Boot Camp routines are varied and best of all, they take place outside of a gym in beautiful scenic training grounds. The workouts typically include short distance running, skipping, ab exercises, focused core work, Pilates, circuit training, team work, free weights, mat work and more.
What do you need?
An exercise mat, small hand weights (1.5kg-3kg), a water bottle and running shoes.
